Week 1 gets off to a nice easy start. I thought it would be good for us to go through a series of basic personal introductions in class. From there I want to give you a broad overview of the course, the technology we’ll be using, and the services we’ll be looking at. I would be especially happy if we could have an open discussion on the state of educational technology as well. I expect you to bring technology with you and be ready to use it — that means a laptop. If you don’t have one contact me early.
For next week, I will want you to have read the assigned sections of a book that will set the tone for much of our early discussion, Small Pieces Loosely Joined. I have not assigned the whole book, just a few parts of it. Understand that it is available free online. I will also ask that you listen to a selected podcast — find that below in the Assignments Overview. Please note that podcasts do not require iPods, but you will need to have the ability to listen to them on your computer — I recommend Apple’s iTunes software for that. The schedule breaks down as:
Each Working Block is 30 Minutes
- Personal Introductions
- Write Personal Bio
- Course Overview
- Break
- Educational Technology: Combine Challenges in an eWorld with Net Generation (2 Blocks)
Assignments
- Reading: Small Pieces Loosely Joined – What Sections?
- Listen to this Podcast – What Podcast?
- Complete the Personal Introduction Assignment by following these directions carefully.
