I didn’t take any pictures, but I am guessing some of the new faces emerging on the campus Twitter scene did to document the first PSU Tweet Meet. Funny, I tried to pull the trigger on something like this last year, but it never happened … no matter. I have to say I am constantly amazed at how my digital connections continue to materialize into real live people — right before my eyes. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Twitter has afforded new opportunities to engage the local community like nothing I have been involved with. My colleague, Stevie Rocco, said it best when she described how Twitter is so much more effective for her in her local space — it has shaped new relationships right here on our campus and for that I am thankful.
So, I want to offer I heart felt thank you to all who attended and want to apologize for being in a sub-colecamplese mood … crazy day and without a doubt the Tweet Meet was a very bright spot! It was a pleasure meeting new people and reconnecting with others.
First I heard of it. Did search on psu.edu, twitter, our blogs, no announcement or mention of this before the fact. I feel sort of out of the loop. Was this a private event?
If not, when is the next one? Would be interested in attending. Thanks.
I thought it was a great idea! Alas, in practice these sorts of things are really more like “PSU University Park Tweet Meets.”

Well, it happened all through Twitter. I didn’t get a real invite other than an open invitation posted by someone via Twitter. I just tweeted back that I would try to be there and low and behold there was a place at the table. I have a feeling this community will grow and continue to meet and talk. Steve, I hear you … we need to find a better way to make it ALL of PSU.
Yeah… we need some sort of “roaming tweet meet.” Found a great Old English style Brew Pub down here… We could always “tweet Mob” it!
Cole, I understand it was via someone I am not listed as “following” in Twitter.
That’s an interesting conundrum. I would like to build my “following” list to be able to learn more about what is going on and come up with ideas on how to use Twitter as a communications professional (shameless plug – like my daily “TLT Coffee Reads”, links to articles on teaching/technology that I find and post every morning – follow me at http://twitter.com/JamieOber to get your daily read!). If I went to these sort of events, I could, but then, I don’t hear about them.
But I think this is a problem that will be solved in time, sort of “growing pains” of a great concept. I agree with you, Cole, that this community will probably grow.
On a side note, I note that my friends, former colleagues, etc. have gone from “Twitter? What on Earth is that” and basically an eye roll when I tell them what it is, to more and more people getting into it. I have several friends from Pittsburgh doing it, and two of my favorite non-PSU blogs are Tweeting as an extension of their blog. I would say we are well past early adoption.
